this show was fun the first couple of seasons before it became a show all about dating, sex and women being better than men.
think about it the men were basically treated like whipping posts for the female characters while the women were treated like human beings.
this show suddenly became less about preaching family values and humanity and more about women being superior to men and how women should be treated like humans while men should be treated like garbage.
i think after mary left this show became totally unwatchable crap for me.
The twins were the down fall
their really only one character
its always "Sam and David"
its never "Sam PUT THAT DOWN!!!"
or "DAVID GET OVER HERE!!"
their in every scene together
I dont think any one knows which one is which...except one has straight hair
and one doesn't
then the characters played by..Lance Bass,The Olsen Twins,Ashly Simpson,Aaron Carter,Tara Lapinski . its like "what the"
and when Marry went bad and Lucy turned all Feminist every Female is referred to as a woman not a girl or a lady....but I do think b*tch LOL
this show started off really good...it was a good idea, and the kids were interesting to watch. but i totally agree with many people that the show jumped for many different reasons. first...i dont remember annie becoming really bitchy...but maybe that was after i stopped watching the show. so it started to jump when mary trashed the gym, and then annie had twins, and then lucy became too ridiculous to wsatch with her annoying boy crazy antics. but the show became COMPLETELY UNBEARABLE when those dumb twins starting talking. OMG talk about the most annoying sound in the world! ahhhhhh! i have nightmares just thinking about it!
I'm all for strong women, but really what the heck was Annie Camden's problem?! It had to be something besides hormones and menopause! Poor Eric was always helping people and empowering people and spreading the word of God. What did Annie do?! Yell at her kids and husband for breathing!
of course mary went crazy! she lived with a hostile mom who tore into everyone who even slightly disagreed with her. her father was a god-fearing wuss who always spoke in a whisper. and her younger sister, lucy, was a spoiled, angry, hormonal jealous little piece-of-sh#t who cried over the silliest things and placed boys ahead of all else.
The whole relationship thing is the worst thing about this show. All these kids seemed to care about was being in a relationship with someone! I for one got so sick and tired of hearing one of the kids, or one of parents, or friend of one of the kids, going on and on about "they are together"/"they are no longer together" ad-nausem! I especially hated when Lucy and Mary duked it out over some guy, or when Mary messed up her entire life because of some loser boyfriend! BTW, as much as I respect women, I thought Annie Camden was a real nasty piece of sh%t!!
I too recall Annie b*tch-slapping Eric but not for that reason.

I think I only tolerated this show while babysitting my little sister but became subjected to the stupidity of the show. Mainly the obsessed-with-dating aspect and the nasty mother from HELL!! Ruthie was soooo annoying until she turned into a hot teenager.
i haven't seen this show in a while not even in reruns but i vaguely remember an episode where annie punches or slaps eric in the face. i think it's where they are having marital problems and annie kisses a carpenter who is working on their house or something then eric almost kisses some woman who he is counseling but he tells her he is happily married and loves his wife. then the guy who kissed annie tells him what happened and he goes home to confront her about it but while he was calm and repectful about it annie turns into this screaming raging hormonal b-tch and starts ripping into eric. then he tells her that a woman started coming onto him but he told her he was happily married and loves annie. to that i recall annie just slapping him, or punching him, really hard in his face and he walks out of the house. i'm not sure but i recall this happening and this was when i oficially lost all respect for annie camden and lost all interest in this show.
I was a huge fan of this show when it was on, but even though Annie was nasty at times to her kids and her husband, at least she wasn't serving her husband with a smile like alot of other TV housewives. I personally loved it that Matt was willing to circle the world for the woman he loved because that's what men, real men, are supposed to do-put their own selves aside for the women they love. Women are the ones who are supposed to be strong, self-suficient and independent.
ok, so i totally get that Annie was a complete drama queen about everything, and that her expectations for her children and Eric were way to high, but I loved seeing a show about a family that was christian and the man was a pastor. I am a Pastor's kid myself and enjoyed seeing the reality that people are people and just because Eric was a pastor didn't mean his kids were perfect...they were far from it.
i agree annie camden and the obsessive dating made this show unwatchable.

i'm a stay-at-home mom and i love it because i get to spend time with my kids.

call me antifeminist, but i truly do love it.

i also find it offensive how some people on here are saying stuff like "annie's a strong woman" and stuff because if that what it means to be a strong woman - verbally abusing your husband and kids all the time - then i'd rather be submissive!

me, yeah, my family and i have our problems...but, i never treat or talk to them the way annie does.

i also never chop off my husband's manhood everytime he opens hit mouth.

i got so annoyed whenever poor eric camden would say something to annie like "how are the kids doing?" and she'd throw that "i just had seven kids and i'm tired HOW DO YOU THINK!!!" crap at him.

the dating part also annoyed me about this show.

especially matt...he was so needy and dependent on women that he forgot his self worth.

the episode where he's leaving college to go live with his girlfriend in new york city was a joke.

it was almost as if the camden children considered it a personal loss if they didn't have a mate.

i remember them even crying harder over a breakup than the death of a loved one.

this is why i just stopped watching this show after a few episodes in season 5.

i didn't watch it when it was originally on until the later seasons by i have been watching the reruns on hallmark and i must sat the very first season has been the best.
I am so glad to see so many other people on here as anti-Annie Camden as I am. My GAWD that woman was always so overlydramatic about EVERYTHING!!!
Like on the episode that was on yesterday when they were planning a surprise b-day party for Eric and she was trying to get him out of the house, she got all melodramatic.
And I hated how she treated her kids because they weren't even allowed to make the slightest mistake! I mean heaven forbid one of them should slip up and accidently call her "mam"...she'd banish them for weeks without food, or water.
And, yea, she was alot kinder to people she hardly knew, like when she was so sweet and loving to that woman who was getting a divorce and then throwing that semi-feminist tyrant at Eric!
No wonder the eldest daughter left!! If I had that dragon lady for a mother, I'd give myself up for adoption!! And, my god, poor Eric!!
even though it had an important message i absolutely hate the "tunes" episode with a passion. because it is basically about how women are superior to men and need to be treated like royalty, while pretty much every episode of this god awful series basically makes it okay for the female characters to be disrespectful to the male characters. case-in-point, how annie camden stomped all over eric camden over everything the man said and did. and how the women matt got involved with took him for granted. and what was with simon always dating the bossiest girls on the planet?! i understand about treating people with respect, but this who was telling us that only women deserve respect because they are the better sex, while men deserve to have their hearts stomped on and treated like dirt. i especially hated the whole chest-hitting thing annie did to assert her power. who wrote this show anyway? a group of femme-nazis?!
I absolutely DETESTED Ruthie and Annie. Annie was okay the first few seasons, but then she turned into a superbitch. If I were her husband I would have strangled her in her sleep. Ruthie I always hated. She wasnt cute, she was a pathetic little brat who everyone appreciated waaaaaaay more than she deserved. And I didnt mind Lucy, but then when Kevin came along she started acting exactly like her mom, and got all pissy because he wouldnt propose to her. Couldnt blame him. Not a bad show in itself, but those characters completely turned me off and I didnt watch the last 3 or 4 seasons out of pure hate for those three characters
I agree the whole dating/relationships thing got way outta hand on the show. But I disagree about the person who claims this show encouraged girls to be co-dependent on guys, because if you think about it, Matt was the one who was like totally obsessed with having a steady girlfriend. He was even worse than Lucy. He would take these long trips across the country after some girl dumps him, or turn into this emotional headcase. Then he wonders why his grades started slipping and why his own roommate, John, couldn't stand him. I really hated it when the two pretty neighbors went to his and John's place for dinner and Matt starts blubbering and balling like a baby over that Shanna girl, who I never really liked because she kind of took Matt for granted. He even started at the one girl's pants and was like, "Jeans...Shanna used to wear jeans!" and the girls are like, "Awwwwww..." If it were me, I'd either be SOOOO outta there, or I'd tell him to "SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!" And when he told his mom, Annie Camden (AKA the NASTIEST mother even on television!!) that he wanted to move to drop out of school and move to New York to be with Shanna, she doesn't do anything to stop him, nor does she tell him not to put his education on hold over some girl, instead she frets about a STUPID CLOCK!!!! Of course, she was more worried about one of her daughters calling her "just MOM", but her son is basically willing to throw his entire college career away over a girl and she could care less. If this were one of her daughters, she would sit them down and give them a whole song-and-dance about how it is wrong for women to throw their lives away because of a man. Anyway, then he gets that deaf girl back and is about to marry her, then she runs out, and he's failing all his courses because he's so pre-occupied with her! So, to say that this show was bad because the female characters were co-dependent on men, thus sending out a bad message is stupid, considering it was Matt Camden who was the most neurotic over women! If anything, he was sending a bad message to guys. All in all, now that I think about it, this was a severely messed up show, and I don't even know why I bothered spending nearly ten years of my life watching it!
