"In fact, I knew the show had JTS when I watched the pinball playing kid trapped in the mall episode. That was sooooooo freaking dumb! It was kind of okay at first, but then at the end the kid thinks he's safe, but he looks up at the top of the escalator and see's a giant pinball rolling towards him, that was so FU****G STUPID!!!! That is the exact moment the show JTS."
Are you saying the show JTS in the first season? Because that's when that episode aired.

I actually forgot all about the show until about 1 month ago me and my brother thought about it. I looked all over the net for it and youtube has pretty much every episode but a few.. I've watched them all since, and it brings back alot of memories from my childhood.. I LOVED the first 5 seasons but then i stopped watching when the new cast came out.. And Tucker was the only one left.. What's cool now is that i get to watch new episodes i've never seen before.. But i noticed that the stories really dropped off compared to the earlier ones.. And now that i've forgot about the show for so many years, watching them again takes me back to when i was a kid again and brings back really cool memories every time i watch it..!!
I remember this show's earlier seasons. While not quite as frightining as Tales from the Crypt and not as mindscrew-centric as The Outer Limits, it still managed to be quite scary for surprising, moreso for it's target audeince. Some episodes managed to creep me out, and this show is probably what got me into ghost stories, aleins, and other paranormal things, as well as horror. HWoever, once they ousted most of the cast and replaced them with some new posers, the stories began to lose something quickly, and became less entertainingm, ending with some schmoe learning an 'important lesson.' Really...do TV Execs think children need these morals hammered into there brains in every TV show? Seriously, they probably here it enough, and maybe you should stop trying to tecah them 'life lessons' and give them entertainment? Kinds may not be as smart as adults, but really, stop watering down stuff and injecting morals into it.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? jumped when the stories began to make me laugh. I can undertsnad that it is suppost to be unrealistic because it told about ghost stories. But come on. I remember an episode where the kid was in a fun house and out of nowhere came a fake dragon shooting out flames. Also later in that episode the kid somehow gets a box of cigars. This episode came along with many unrealistic new ones that had the stupidest crap in them. There were new episodes that had kids practically commiting homicide. The old ones were great, but the newer ones sucked.
i loved the show b4 it ended. it was so long ago so i can only remember a few but i used to love watching it.
I remember really being into the show when I was between the ages of 14 and 16, and living in the UK (I lived there from 1992 to 1996 and then moved back to the states.) And I would most definitely have to say that the show jumped the shark by the 3rd season; as many before me have stated, that's the season when the episodes as a whole began to deteriorate in quality AND that's also the same season in which Tucker and Sam were added to the Midnight Society in lieu of David and Kristen, respectively. That was another thing I didn't like because David and Kristen were cool! And it's bad enough they never even SAID what happened to Eric after the 1st season! Talk about a bad combination of thing! But overall, this is how I'd rate the show: the 1t season was the best and merits four stars (if not five); the 2nd season was alright (i.e. not quite as top-notch as the first, but still pretty good) and merits two and a half stars (maybe three); the 3rd season jumped the shark and AT BEST deserves one star (if even that), and the 4th and following seasons plummeted deeper and deeper to the bottom of the ocean, which is why I refuse to even give the writers credit for trying on those! Not that it was their fault necessarily....they just ran out of ideas after awhile, that's all. I remember right around the time the 4th and 5th seasons were brought over to the UK back in late 1995 that I was determined to get the whole 1st season on tape, but I had to wait until they'd shown the two seasons in question long enough for viewers to have more than once chance to see them. It required a lot of patience and anxiety, but I eventually got them! And it was well worth it, too! After all, as I watched the 4th and 5th seasons, I remember thinking the episodes sucked so badly that, compared with the 1st season, I couldn't believe they were part of the same program! And besides, by the time you get to season three, you see a lot of the story lines were ripoffs of ideas they had from previous season episodes! But on another note, just because the episodes began to suck starting with Season 3 doesn't mean they were entirely "kiddie" in nature from then on (or previously.) After all, if this show was mainly for kids, how come Season 3 episode "The Tale of the Dream Girl" was the inspiration for the 1999 film "The Sixth Sense"? While I completely agree with those who said the show lost its appeal by the 3rd season, I disagree with those who imply its themes were primarily geared towards children and not adults. Besides, my own mother and grandmother found a couple of episodes particularly creepy ("The Tale of the Dark Music" and "The Tale of the Dollmaker"< respectively). Anyway, I'm glad I got all 13 episodes of the 1st season on tape, and seeing how crappy (that's CRAPPY, not creepy! LOL) the later seasons are makes me appreciate the 1st season even more! I know it sounds silly of me to be so philosophical over a sily TV show, but come on, that season was truly the best! And yes, I have all the 2nd season episodes on tape that I like as well.
I have all of the Seasons on DVD! I love it!!! But i am not a fan of the newer episodes with the new cast. Garbear is #1 haha

I grew up in ther nineties and LOVED this show along with the other 'ghost' shows on at the time. Unfortunatly, Elisha Cuthbert and her spaced out rat mouth ruined this perfectly good show for me.
Yes, I was a child of the nineties as well, though probably too young to be part of the target audience of the show. I used to watch it with my older brother when I was 5 or 6 years old, but I remember the classics. The episode that probably scared me the most was obviously impossible but still scary one about the glasses, where the girl could see into a different dimension; I would have to turn off the TV if I was watching it alone. I also remember the one with the monster in the pool (which permenantly made me afraid of the black lane lines in our public pool) and the monster that appeared when the kids stared at fire for too long (which also prevented me from looking directly at my birthday candles that year). I'm pretty sure the show jumped the shark when they started making new episodes. I didn't like the new Midnight Society; it was nothing against them, I just didn't like having completely umfamiliar characters replace all the old ones. The stories were also not as creative in my opinion; it was just boring.
The original show was awesome. But the remake in 1999 was not good. The episodes are nowhere near as intriguing. None of the kids are particularly interesting. The new show does not hold my attention like the old one does.
I don't think the original one ever jumped the shark. It was SO GOOD.

i do remember this show, as i child of the 90's myself, and also remebember that when it woz good it woz SCARY. The rest of the time it woz just sort of funny reali. Two particualer ep's that stuck with me were the dollhouse episode n the one with the girl in the mirror. but the thing that gt 2 me the most woz that bloody creepy swing in the park that swung by itself....*shivers*
