"Good morning."
Actually, I'm just kidding. I don't think it ever jumped.
Bobby coming back (under any terms) was a good thing.
But I sure hated it when they did away with my favorite J.R. nemesis: Jeremy Wendell. (BTW, am I mistaken or on the closing credits of the episodes from his earliest appearances, didn't they spell his name as "Jerome" instead of "Jeremy" Wendell? Now that's rich!!

I THINK EVERYONE IS FORGETTING THE OBVIOUS. THAT PITIFUL ENDING. IT MIGHT HAVE JUMPED BEFORE BUT THAT LAST SHOW LEFT A TRUELY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH.I WONDER IF J.R. WAS REALLY DRINKING ALL THOSE BURBAN AND BRANCH COCKTAILS. ANYWAY THE SHOW WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER THE OLD PATRIARCH JOCK DIED...
Dallas may have jumped the shark following the dream episode but it was certainly devoured in the latter seasons when JR held only a supporting role and storylines revolved around his son James and all the Clayton/Miss Ellie "detective" storylines. The show was yanked from the network a few seasons too late.
Jumped the moment it premiered. The overbearing JR, the overdramatic Romeo/Juliet love story/feud. The bitchiness, the flamboyance of it all. One of the worst most successful shows ever to be on TV. Its endless spin-offs and ripoffs were even worse, particularly Dynasty! Dallas fans are also some of the most looney ever. Go to the UD forum to see what I mean...
When they wrote off Jeremy Wendell. In fact even before that, when they had Wendell hassling with Bobby. It was so inexplicibly out of character for Wendell. After defeating JR, Wendell wouldn't have had 5 minutes for Bobby. And why was Boby dining at a fancy restaurant alone when Wendell approached him with insults. That was equally out of character for Bobby. Fun scene, but I remember thinking, oh no, they're going to write off my favorite character and nemesis, Wendell.
Dallas started off as a great show...but not everyone in Texas owns a ranch, in into oil, and is wealthy. A few problems:
01. In one episode, someone comes to the door at 3am, the maid is still in her uniform (huh?)
02. How is it that every lady in that cursed family has been kidnapped at least twice (what bad luck) and the main men were shot as least once (could happen)?
03. Did Bobby ever do anything wrong? He was too perfect! He was good looking, honest, rich, a star quarterback, state rep., rodeo star, builder, oilman, and (probably) a neurosurgeon in his spare time.

I'm bummed! I was enjoying the reruns on SOAPnet and wonder when (or if) we'll see this series again.
I thought I might find it super-kitschy after all these years, but guess again. Although it took well into the second season for the show to gather its bearings and hit its stride, Dallas evolved into the ultimate guilty pleasure. As many have said, Larry Hagmann was brilliant, and the chemistry between JR and Sue Ellen was priceless. I think the exit of Linda Gray was the true death knell for the series. Prior to that, I thought the most painful thing to watch -- by a long shot -- was Donna Reed as Miss Ellie. Ugh!
Long live JR!

Sad News! SOAPnet has canceled (Dallas)!, damn you Brian Frons, you bastard! now there's nothing left except (Ryan's Hope)!
Dallas started off guns a-blazin'. But it hung around WAY too long.
It became a completely different show as original cast members dropped out year after year. Jock, Bobby, Pam, Donna, Sue Ellen...it was like watching a leper slowly lose his limbs. Painful. Just painful.

I loved DALLAS...the good seasons & the bad. The dream season was good...the Donna/Ray adoption storyline and the Sue Ellen recovery storyline were WELL done. The "dream" was a cool idea. When the character of Pam left it caused a hole in the show. What hurt even more was the right off of the character of Donna at the same time. We lost too much. Ray came next (didn't care that Jeanna was gone.). Then, when Sue Ellen left...I knew there was not much time left. I thought the Pam look-a-like was gonna be the real thing and the JR/Pam rival would be back...but no. The best thing about the last two seasons was Barbara Eden in the final season. Now, if they had kept her on there...WOW.
Funny that this show's first season was 1978, the same year **** classic Debbie Does Dallas came out.
the last comment could not have said it better.jr and sue ellen were the best part of the show.i grew up watching it with my mom and now watching it on dvd still feel the same years later
UP UNTIL I SAW THE RE RUNS ON TVLAND - I THOUGHT THE DREAM SEASON AND THE LOSS OF PAMELA WERE WHAT RUINED THE SHOW- NOT TRUE -
LINDA GRAY WAS A HUGE REASON DALLAS WAS THE SUCCESS IT WAS - AND WHEN SUE ELLEN WAS WRITTEN OUT - OL' JR WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN- THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN LARRY HAGMAN AND LINDA GRAY WAS INCREDIBLE!!WITH
THE LOSS OF LINDA GRAY, THE SHOW CHANGED DRAMATICALLY, AND NOT FOR THE GOOD.
