Dianne kay who played nancy was the prettiest girl I have ever seen. I wish she had done more in hollywood
If you mix two very different looking people like Diana Hyland and Dick Van Patten, rolling the genetic dice eight times, you'd probably get a variety of hair colors , heights and body types. All of the kids basically had upturned noses except for Lani O'Grady, and she could have taken after her mother. You will also get some kids who are better looking than others. They weren't so different in appearance that it was ridiculous that they could be brothers and sisters like in Good Times. That's what I meant.
I'm sorry, did someone just say these actors all really looked like they could be siblings?

Hmmm...let's see, we had 4 brunettes, 3 blondes, and a redhead. Yeah...it's likely that they all shared the same genetic material. Not to mention there's NO WAY that hotties like David and Nancy came from the same womb as those troll dolls Susan and Nicholas.

Apart from those little quibbles, yes...8 is Enough was incredibly realistic.
I enjoyed this show. I also missed the lovely Diana Hyland who seemed caring and maternal. Unlike most shows where the kids look like they were adopted, these kids looked like they could have been related, so it was good casting. Adam Rich looked like a minature version of Dick Van Patten.

I also agree that a JTS was when Susan Richardson bleached her hair white. As a general rule, redheads look washed out when they reach for the peroxide- just look at that girl from the 70's show and Nicole Kidman.

Some people didn't like Merle the Pearl, but I thought he was adorable. I don't think he was a good match for Susan Richardson's character though; she seemed too rough and boyish for him. The eldest son moped around all of the time like he needed some St. Johns Wort. Abby and Tom were a bad match as well. I liked Ernie; I guess I'm in the minority. This show wasn't perfect, but it was entertaining enough for me to miss it when it was gone.
8 is Enough jumped when Abby laughed after Barbarino dumped pig blood all over Carrie. That was, like, so wrong.
The show jumped the shark when Susan was at the Day Care Center.
If I had been born into the Bradford family, with Dick Van Patten as my dad, I would have run screaming into the night as soon as I could get up on my own two legs. He's a scary thought as a father figure...
Dick Van Patten is made entirely of butter.

It's true.
EIE never jumped the shark. To this day it's one of my all time favortites along with ALF, Hazel, and Small Wonder.
I'll agree with all the other posts about Brian Patrick Clarke, he was a total hottie! I still think Grant Goodeve was the hottest though. I never understood how someone as hot as Abby could be attracted to weasel Tom??
I never got why they bothered to give the family eight kids. I mean, they never DID anything with them. The kids weren't really delineated in any meaningful way. Take any episode, switch the names of the kids, and it wouldn't mess anything up. Their lines were interchangeable because the characters were interchangeable.

Meanwhile, the producers had to pay eight actors, the scenarists had to write lines for a small army week after week, etc. Just never made a lick of sense.
Tom Bradford really grosses me out to an almost irrational point. I can't really put it all into words too easily, but his way of acting in the family is so selfish and immature. Yuck yuck yuck. Everyone caters to him, and it makes me so sad. He ruined the show.
