Family guy's writing? Yup, interchangeable jokes are a lot harder to write than ones to do with the plot. **** off and learn what you're talking about.
Futurama is one of my favorite shows of all time. I have to agree, though, with those who are panning the new "movies". The caliber of hilarity is definitely lower than it was during the actual series. Perhaps my expectations are too high after having had lots of time to watch old eps on DVD and absorb all the humor, but it is kind of saddening. Jurassic Bark tops my list of worst episodes. I can't stand to watch it because it's treacly, a characteristic that I otherwise never would ascribe to the show. The Star Trek episode is a close second after Jurassic Bark, but it's a little more tolerable.
Futurama is infinitely funnier than Family Guy and the current incarnation of the Simpsons because it doesn't rely so heavily on pop culture references. Math jokes stand both in 2001 and 3001. That's what I love about Futurama - the jokes stand the test of time and repeated viewings.
Futurama was probably the best adult cartoon ever. As a New Yorker, it was clear that the writers knew a thing or two about this town, and the little details were a delight. More to the point, the show relied on intelligence for its humor, rather than the crude jokes that are all Family Guy and its ilk have to offer.

When I read comments like the one above indicating Futurama wasn't up to the standards of Family Guy, and that the only funny episode was the leela-branigan hook-up episode, I want to ask: what are you, 12? grow some pubic hair, get a date, and I dunno, maybe you'll get over your purile obsession with dick and fart jokes.

Can't be surprised that the only intelligent show out there (yes, including the simpsons) got dumped by Fox. It was always getting bumped for post-game BS from whatever meathead football game aired on Sunday afternoon, and, come on, it's Fox - their viewers aren't exactly known for intellect.

The new episodes have been garbage - the old feel is gone. I won't buy another since season 4, and use my bender's big score as a drinks coaster.
Futurama has never jumped. It's the best show ever done. It hasn't the flaws the Simpsons has, and it can made you laugh and cry at the same time. The plot is simply perfect and it has a great continuity.

Awesome! Long life Futurama!
Futurama wasn't terrible but the shows writers weren't quite the caliber of the Simpsons, Southpark or Family Guy writers. Futurama traded off Lila's sex appeal and its relatively clean-humor nature. This would have worked if the jokes had been better or if the characters had been more interesting. The only really funny episode i ever remember watching is the one where Lila has sex with Captain Brannigan. The rest of the episodes were like sitting though the show waiting for something funny to happen. A couple things were funny but over all it was dull.

I hear they are making more episodes. I hope they do better in round 2.
Futurama was great. Im more wiling to say that the show was canceled when it was just starting to get good. The 1st and 2nd season episodes seemed to be establishing the series and introducing characters, but 3 and 4 where classics for cure. They had coherent plots (unlike Family Guy and later Simpsons). Even better. The show had continuity over the course of the series!
I think it is no coincidence that Futurama started when the Simpsons went downhill. It was probably meant to be a replacement for that show. I do not understand why it was canceled, it had a lot of potential. Makes you wonder.
They cut it off before it had a chance to jump the shark. It included celebrities for no apparent reason as the simpsons does now, but for some reason it works. Perhaps it's just the concept of a man going to the future in a cartoon show that is so appealing and hilarious, but while it did have some simpsonsish moments, I don't think it even completely became a parody of itself.
I have to agree and say that I believe that Futurama never jumped the shark. It was funny in many different ways. There were plays on words and simple jokes for younger kids to be amused with, within the script there were adult undertones that can REALLY get you laughing, and it was a unique and priceless cartoon. Matt Groening definitely didn't disappoint.

Despite some of crude humor (the Slurm episode), this show DID actually manage to work in some good values - and I agree with many of the other people on here in saying that, at this point, I can't even WATCH the end of Jurassic Bark because I KNOW I'm going to cry. The Sting was another good episode - but that made me cry in a good way. :)

So, finally, this show is awesome, and hasn't jumped. And hopefully, with the releases of the movies, it will continue to be awesome. :)
What I hated about Futurama is that it was set in the 31 century but the characters acted like they were in the 20 century
Something tells me that one of the reasons the Simpsons is so horribly and poorly done now (in addition to being out of ideas, of course) is because Matt Groening and the Futurama team are bitter that so many people preferred the Simpsons to Futurama to the point where Futurama was taken off of Fox and eventually cancelled, and it's their way of getting back at Simpsons fans. Think about it: it was around the time that Futurama aired that the Simpsons started going downhill.

But I digress, Futurama was a good show. It and the Simpsons were two totally different sitcoms: The Simpsons was a realistic sitcom, while Futurama was a sci-fi sitcom hybrid. It's a shame Phil Hartman died before the show aired, he would have been GREAT. Which leads me to another reason the show didn't do as well as it could have. Not that Billy West didn't do a great job, he was terrific.
This is, IMO, the greatest animated show ever! I know that sounds nerdy, but with Jurassic Bark, Luck of the Fryish, Godfellas, they've really been able to add moral character to the show. It looks great because the characters are actually modeled in 3-D, unlike other animated shows. The movies, however, seem to be catering to the shock-value teenage crowd that Family Guy has captured. It's almost like Futurama is attempting to dumb itself down in order to get back on TV. I have all the seasons and both movies and will enjoy them for years to come. As much as I want new episodes, I'm afraid they will ruin what the show does for me.
Lisa Liu robots, or whatever her name is. Fry makes his own mate with a robot company. The professor shows him a movie about the dangers of falling in love with robots. HILARIOUS!
Great show, but the Harlem Globetrotters episode was WAY off! Bender is written completely out of character. Since when is he such a wimp? Shouldn't Fry be the one trying to be a Globetrotter? They are from his time. Speaking of "time", the time jumps with Fry and Leela were kind of a killjoy. Another sad episode for Fry.
This is the one show I can honestly say never jumped the shark. It is a fantastic comedy that also has real values and morals, ulike shows like Family Guy that thrive on stupid and offensive plots that even fart jokes are above. The animation was also better then most shows today, it really looked like the Palnet Express ship was traveling at warp speed. This is also the only cartoon that has ever made me cry-Jurrasic Bark.

I do have to say that I'm glad the show was cut short. That allowed it to be remembered as always great instead of sinking downhill in the later seasons until it is unrecognizable.
