I like most of your casting ideas but I think the characters of Gilligan and Ginger should be closer in age; it'd look creepy to see a woman in her 50s chasing Zac around. Hell, Madonna's daughter (unibrow and all) is closer to Zac's age than Madonna is. How about Amanda Bynes? She had a lot of screen presence on Nick as a child (All That, The Amanda Show)but not as much now that she's older. And guest appearances by the surviving castaways would be fun. I can't see Tina Louise doing it but I'm sure Russell Johnson or Dawn Wells would jump at the chance.
(AWW-Scracth Steve Carell as Gilligma, I FORGOT I had put Zac Efron as Gilligan
Anywya, Happy Birthday to Dawn Wells aka Mary Ann.
Here is the cast I have in mind:
Gilligan: Zac Efron
Skipper: John Goodman
Professor: Tobey MacGuire
Mary-Ann: Rachel Bilson
Thurston: Phillip S.Hoffman
Lovey: Allison Janney
Ginger: Madonna
(Maddie. Don't let 'Swept Away" bring you down here, you cna sitll act.)
BTW John Goodman was a good choice, von Smitty..Zaqc Efron seeing him in High School Musical and hairspray is versatile enough I think by now that he can PLAY GILLIGAN. Rachel Bilson is 27, the age Dwn Well was in 1964 when she played Mary Ann. She has the righgt looks and style.

Von Smitty (may 16, '08) had a good Skipper choice, for a movie, John Goodman. I'll go with that and add:
Gilligan: Steve Carell
Skipper: John Goodman
Mary Ann: Rachel Bilson
Ginger: Madonna (well, they both copy Marilyn Monroe)
Lovey: Allison Janney
Thurston: Phillio Seymour Hoffman
Gilligan: Zac Efron (NOT JOKING)

If you were a nerdy, intellectual, academia type and had Ginger and Mary Anne on a deserted island, and your only competition was a fat captain and a bumbling idiot, would you build a boat?
Very interesting, plausible theory! Now, how did Ginger manage salon-perfect hair at all times in the middle of nowhere?
OK to the posters that don't get it.
Resort hotels have lots of things to do.
For instance many resorts offer boat tours around the islands.
The Howells came and for some reason their rooms weren't ready. I worked in a place like this and if rooms weren't ready we'd give them free drinks in the bar, a free pass to the golf course or yes a free cruise on the island boat (we had 1/2 hour and hour cruises). This while we got their rooms ready.
So it's obvious the Howells came to check in and their room wasn't ready. They gave part of their luggage to the bellman to hold but took part of their luggage, including the cases with money and pills with them.
Ginger was singing in the resort's night club. Mary Ann and the Professor signed up for the island tour. Later Ginger joined them for some reason.
The Skipper and Gilligan run the cruise which is not owned by the hotel but leases a spot FROM the hotel's marina. This explains why Ginger and the crew don't know each other.
It explains why the Howells have luggage. Then on the three hour tour the weather turns bad and it isn't till the next morning when they are washed ashore.
The Professor gives the location of the island as 140° longitude, 10° latitude this puts it' over 1,000 miles from Hawaii. Surely it wasn't the inability to build a raft but the idea that they were so far out of the shipping lanes they couldn't be sure they'd reach an Island.

Dale, I do remember Dusty's Trail! I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers that dog! What a terrible show! It was created by Sherwood Schwartz' brother (I believe) and was almost a complete ripoff of Gilligan's Island. It's also listed on this website. Check it out if you are interested.
Peace.
Peace.
The "new" Ginger in the Rescue film was prettier than Tina Louise!
At the end of the Rescue film the Minnow 2 was al;so wrecked - Guess where? Gilligan found a piece of wreckage from the original Minnow. "We're back home..."
Does anybody remember the Bob Denver series "Dusty's Trail" which fatured a pretty girl, a plain girl, an intellictual man, A rich couple, & the wagon boss as well as incompetent scout Dusty. Sound familiar?

i never saw a gilligan cartoon
i think the movie rescue from gilligan's
island could have been better
but gilligan's island the show that lasted 1964-1967 never jumped
and i think mary anne was prettier
than ginger

Pres. Bush's Press Secretary on Oliver Stone's film "W":
"Saying Oliver Stone is an accurate historian is like saying Gilligan was an accurate navigator."
Love W or hate him, that's a great line!

MJ, you're conditions for memake don't make sense. They remake TV shows and movies all the time without any care to what happened canonically (which can or cannot be annoying depending on how they handle it)
I thought in Escape From Gilligan's Island they end up stranded back on the island somehow? Doesn't it show Mary Ann with a baby at the end?
I don't know.. Maybe i'm confused with something else.
