I just discovered this show [On NetFlix] I LOVE this show. I wish it went on for more and more seasons. I agree, how could this only have been on for two - when Seventh Heaven was on for 11! Yikes.

I just wanted to say I miss this show, and never thought it Jumped.

Daaaaaaaaaamn I miss this show. I don't understand why it began so brilliantly, then it was suddenly written so shoddily towards the end of the second season. And why didn't CBS bother saving a show that actually speaks to young adults and young professionals, which actually keeps them home at night?

Joan Of Arcadia is a mature viewing show, and it is a brilliant show at that. Im a Catholic and Im impressed if we had watched Joan Of Arcadia at our compulsory GCSE RE classes we would all have passed. Its nice to finally watch something intelligent and about God I mean how many of us would willing watch something about God unless it was a drama invloving a young girl and several other story lines? A brilliant Cast and the way the writer has portrayed the family has to be admired and Joans friends also shows us we dont always know everything about our friends such as Grace becoming a woman in a Jewish community and her mother being an alcaholic. All these storylines will help someone in the audience. And as for everything God says and how God appears and when is brilliant to you cant just listen to the messages you have to interpret for yourself which is what the bible is all about. Plus it make yout think about the ethical things in life too, such as reading out the bullies emails and realising she was protecting herself as her mother had breastcancer. And as for the Adam cynics out there, Im sure all girls will remember their friends that were boys before the summer holidays at about 14 and then returning and how the boys were suddenly taller, their voices breaking and how sex driven they were, this is all the writer has done so give her a break and visit the official Joan Of Arcadia website and read the writers side of the story. i think the break up was a good idea. it just seemed right that it happend. it sucked that he cheated, but cheatin happens and that sucks too. it seemed real and i think they were brave to do so.

An excellent first year, conveying the idea that one person can make a difference; jumped with the second season and its leading into the "Joan vs. the Devil" nonsense...

Considering that it was meant to be an
inspirational show,the increasingly bleak
and pessimistic tone of the second season
was jarring.

How could a wonderful, intelligent show like Joan of Arcadia only last two seasons while that inane Seventh Heaven lasted for 11 years?

Joan of Arcadia was easily the best religious show ever on television--and I say that as an atheist. It got beyond salvation and fire and brimstone and showed people asking tough questions for which there may be no answers. And most of all it showed that religion isn't about dressing up on Sunday morning; it's about getting out in the world and making it a better place.

my dad and i watched it every week. i have every season on dvd and will always love the show.

Joan of Arcadia never jumped the shark , CBS just couldn't find the right time slot for it so deciding its better off to drop it from the lineup instead of figuring out what time slot it would do best at is a easier solution .

Day One. The thing was mostly just platitudes for ego-boosting. Typical of the New Age.

It is a nice concept that God comes in various forms (and it was Moses Maimonodes who concluded that all references to angels were simply descriptions of some natural phenomena which God choseto express himself at the moment).

There is some attempt at challenging the audience (God commands her to do things which she cannot handle and must be faithfull). but all in all, there is very little meditation on the nature of sin and human malidy. Very weak.

Jumped when Adam cheated on Joan.

First of all, I want to say that it is ridiculous to say that an existing TV show has jumped the shark. It may have made a bad mistake but it may recover from it. You can only analyze the failure after the show is over. Most of the posts I read on this site are complaints about details (JOAN collapsed because Hillary Duff appeared on it ?!) , not analyses of fatal flaws in various shows.

To start with, the real reason JOAN was cancelled was because Moonves hated it.

That said, the show began to falter when it started to introduce interesting story lines and then having them evaporate unresolved. Joan's doubts about her sanity, why her divine friend let her get seriously ill, why the Girardis were getting sued, whether Grace's mother recovered from alcoholism. A lot of this was probably due to outside (Moonves) meddling.

I liked Joan of Arcadia at first. I mean it was really sweet and all. But after a while it got totally overdramatic with the Adam and Joan relationship! I mean come on! How many times do they have to pull the "woe is me" routine. And on top of that Joan's relationship with God became far too predictable.
