Never Jumped
Same character, different actor (Marilyn)
The New Munsters
Marilyn doesn't notice (again)
Day One
Shark Bytes
The Munsters were more slapstick in their presentation. Yeah it was a bit silly....but back in those days, (AND NOW!) we all can use a little good-natured leg pull.
The Addams Family were a little more creepy. Not saying it wasn't funny or enjoyable...but their humor was a bit like The Marx Brothers, where The Munsters more resembled The Three Stooges.
Slapstick vs. Sight Gags
Take your pick.
I like 'em both!

ChrisM, the reason the show never jumped is because it never had anywhere to jump. It sucked from the very first episode -- The Munsters were a poor rip-off of the Addams Family, which was a much more creative and funny show. And that comes directly from Thing.
Never Jumped! Although only on for two season 70 episodes were created, and I've seen them all two or 3 times in syndication and the overall premise never got stale while it the same time individual episodes quite varied in the subject matter. As far as "new kid it town" save for the opening credits, who can tell the difference between the two Marilyns?
Hey folks, just a reminder: typing in bold is just as bad as TYPING IN ALL-CAPS! It indicates that you are SHOUTING! Please use bold or ALL-CAPS only to highlight a few words here and there...people will greatly appreciate it!
I still remember that thanksgiving episode that they ran. They were supposedly going to eat something that resembled a turkey, but it had four legs. It was out on the table ready to be carved. Does anybody else out there remember this episode?
The Munsters were nothing more than a white-washed version of the Addams Family...created to be more palatable to the white bread tastes of middle America.
Although New Munsters, actually "The Munsters Today", had an appalling first season with only one tolerable episode, (yes, I'm a masochist when it comes to bad television), I was amazed that the 2nd season was actually for the most part watchable. Alas the third season of it was stuck in a general feeling of malaise. Plus Moosie Drier guest starred on an episode during the second and third season and I have always been so gay for him!
This was one of the best sitcoms to come out of the 1960s hands down. Fred Gwynne created one of the most lovable, memorable characters of all time. Yvonne DeCarlo showed that she was an amazing comedic performer and Al Lewis...well, an eccentric character in real-life can only be eccentric on TV too. I don't even think they needed Marilyn & Eddie, just Gwynne, DeCarlo and Lewis were enough. The show suffered a big dip in the writing quality for the second season which is what caused its cancellation really. It remains one of TV Land's most watched shows.
No matter how many times I see a rerun of any episode, this show will always remain hilarious. It never jumped the shark.
Nor did The Munsters Today jump the shark, either. There were two problems with it, however: the beautiful Hilary Van Dyke, who played Marilyn, does not look like Marilyn Monroe, after whom the character was named, at all, and it was not nearly as funny being shot before a live audience. But it was still good.

Ironic how everyone consider Morticia to be the beauty while Lily was supposedly a frumpy housewife forgetting that IRL, Carolyn Jones was pretty and tall but she couldn't hold a candle to Yvonne DeCarlo's exotic beauty . Miss DeCarlo (born Peggy Middleton) had been a hot pinup from WWII onwards and was considered one of the most beautiful and glamourous actresses in Hollywood prior to putting on the green makeup for 'The Munsters'! Miss De Carlo took the role for the dual reasons of needing to support her family after her stuntman husband lost his leg in a stunt and because she always loved horror movies . Still, I wonder how she felt knowing she'd be remembered for the ghouly, middle-aged, vampire housewife Lily instead of the gorgeous, glamourous young pinup star she'd been?
Wow, alotta intersting posts here.Taking the Munsters abit seriously aren't we? For the record the show that set the standard for dopey bumbling husband and razor-tongued belitteing wife was The Honeymooners(1950's), also by far the funniest of the aaformentioned shows.
You are right Jim Taggart, the New Munsters was not the same show. The Munsters never did jump because it's aims were simple - it was pure silliness and just plain funny. It was much funnier than the Addams family. The Addams family was weird but not funny. I loved the goofiness of the Munsters and how childlike Herman was for example.
