Never Jumped
Day One
Fran gets pregnant
Fran has total control

Fran Drescher has the most annoying, awful voice on that show. Please tell me that is not her real voice or real laugh. I would rather listen to hyenas laugh than that awful sound she uttered. Janice on Friends used a laugh like that sparingly, to have that voice all the time is awful.
I think that i am proud of myself do.
Even that i feel great right now,and i am thinking that everything i feeling great do,alright.Dont you know that britney spears is great do.

I really liked this show. Then again, I get a kick out of pouring boiling water down my pants. Go figure.
The Nanny was ingenious and family friendly humor from the beginning. It never received the acclaim of Seinfeld or Frasier, but it was a hilarious show that, from the beginning, became memorable. Fans of the show are still devoted and it NEVER jumped the shark!
Fran Drescher's voice makes me want to plunge ice picks into my ear drums. She is easily one of the most annoying actresses to listen too in sitcom history. This show jumped from day one. But a more egregious thing happened in the episode where Fran reprised her old role of Bobbi Flekman from "This Is Spinal Tap". To drag a character from such a classic movie into this toilet log is simply unforgivable. The Nanny sucked, and always will!
I stand corrected--there was an animated episode--Oy To The World-- which aired in time for Christmas that is now available on Amazon.com! Still, an animated series was not to be in The Nanny's future. Oy gevalt!
The Nanny jumped past The Shark when some CBS exec had the terrible idea of commissioning an animated series based on Fran Drescher's character. This was obviously an inspiration from the show's opening credits, which was an animated cartoon itself. I don't even recall a single episode of The Nanny--Animated Series ever airing on CBS.
Since the idea for a Kate & Allie cartoon remained hush in the 1980s, why couldn't the CBS folks keep their mouths shut about the animated travesty of The Nanny?

I TOO Love the Nanny. All the cast members were perfectly fitted for their roles in the series. Fran is not only Beautiful, she is a talented writer, producer & director. All the cast members should come together again (today-April 2008)and pick up the show again. There are many story lines to do; the twins, the original now adult children of Mr. Sheffield, CC & Niles' marriage and their children, etc. etc. and it goes on. I Nominate for this to materialize.. anyone else??
lol Maggie had a MASSIVE forehead, it jutted out like the bow of a ship. A Neanderthal found in a block of ice perhaps??
To Cathy Viviano, 2/18/08 post: C.C. and Max? What? Better yet, Fran and Niles?
(I love a challenge, Cathy. I get to test the limits of my hypothetical mind. Here we go.)
First off, C.C. and Max:
Max was so oblivious to C.C.'s advances over the years (more so than Fran's) that I doubt anything would have happened between these two. But if it did, it would have happened years prior to Miss Fine ever entering the household. C.C.'s best shot would have occured around, say, five years after the death of Maxwell's (first?) wife, (Sarah?). Niles might not have stayed around the household, since his perceived hatred of C.C. couldn't have been tolerated. For the sake of argument, let's say that Niles is still there.
So the theoretical relationship (we'll assume husband and wife) between Max and C.C. has been established. Where does this leave our heroine, Fran?
C.C. wouldn't have let Fran get past the foyer when Fran would eventually come to the house to apply for the nanny position. She would have hired somebody looking more like Mrs. Doubtfire first. C.C. wouldn't have let this hot, younger woman anywhere near her husband (we know how C.C. couldn't stand Fran the first few seasons- she viewed her as a threat).
I'm having too much fun with this. I'll ponder the steamy relationship between Niles and Fran another time. C.C. and Max? A couple? Unlikely, but I love the idea.

The Nanny jumped the shark when Maxwell and Fran got married and had twins. The Nanny also jumped the shark when Niles and CC got married. CC should've married Maxwell and Niles and Fran would've made a cute couple.
Gotta love "The Nanny". I'll watch a rerun to this day. It was my generations' "I Love Lucy", since Fran and Max had that Lucy/Ricky dynamic going. Val would be the true "Ethel" to Fran's Lucy when they would get caught up in some scheme, but the relationship between C.C. and Niles evolved into a parallel of Fred and Ethel, but they took it to another level with their constant bickering- arguments so over the top you could just tell that they were destined to be together- the whole "thin line between love and hate" thing.
A previous poster made a comment about Niles being gay. You can put that to rest right now. Niles' character was well developed enough for one to assume that his personal goal (let alone his job) was to take care of the Sheffields, through both good times and the tragedy that was the death of Max's previous wife (Sarah?). Niles had to evolve into a kind of secondary "maternal" figure until Fran got there. Who else could have done that? C.C.? She was definitely not cut out to take on that role. She worked for Max for years and cannot remember the kids' names! ( A hilarious running gag throughout the show.)
As for the show itself, "The Nanny" had a great ensemble cast. Fran was gorgeous and fit into the family right away. One poster said he only watched to see Fran in revealing outfits. What man didn't? Her last name was Fine for a reason. (I would, at various times during the shows' run, be attracted to Fran, C.C., or Val. There was always a reason to keep watching.) I liked the character of Max Sheffield, horribly stuck in his old-fashioned English ways while his children grew up American. (Impeccable dresser, too. I want to be like him when I get rich). Niles was underrated as the hilarious nosy butler. (Like other posters said, it is a shame there weren't more Emmys lobbed in his direction. Most went to that "other Niles"...). C.C. was at her best when she was trading insults with Niles, Fran, or her pathetic yet hilarious attempts to seduce Max. Val was great as Fran's best friend, constantly getting Fran into and out of trouble. Ma was funny in the later episodes where she moved in (seems like she did) with her partner-in-crime in tow, Grandma Yetta (forever confusing things). Even Ray Charles was good for a few laughs as Sammy. (I felt cheated in the movie "Ray" because it missed what I feel are two important points in his career- when he did the movie "The Blues Brothers" and when he did this show).
Lastly, the Sheffield kids were great- boy-crazy, oldest child Maggie; smart-mouthed, middle child Brighton (who out of all the kids, got the best lines); and perpetual therapy patient Gracie (later Grace). I loved the relationship that they would eventually develop with Fran.
Unlike many posters, however; I do not believe that Fran and Max getting married should have been the logical ending for this great show. I remember watching "Who's the Boss" waiting for Tony and Angela to get married (seems like it took him three years just to propose) and feeling cheated when I didn't get to see a wedding (from what I remember at least, I did not see a wedding); it was all assumed. "The Nanny" seemingly learned from this debacle and did it right- giving us an actual wedding. I'm glad they did that final season afterward to give us a taste of their married life. But the "double pregnancy" storyline threatened to derail "The Nanny" (when C.C. got pregnant). It was best to end the show there, as I believe the "double pregnancy" storyline led to the demise of another of my favorite shows, "Perfect Strangers".
That's about all I have for now. See you at Fran's 30th birthday party early next year.
